About

The AACC Secretariat for Research and Development (AACC SRD) was established in August 2016 through the amendment of the AACC’s Statute. The AACC SRD is based in Seoul, South Korea, and managed by the Constitutional Court of Korea.

The AACC SRD works mainly in the field of comparative constitutional law, especially focusing on the role of constitutional adjudicatory bodies.

As an association of constitutional courts and equivalent institutions encompassing a diverse range of jurisdictions, the AACC provides the opportunity for member institutions to regularly exchange ideas and share their experiences of constitutional adjudication. The AACC SRD provides an institutionalized platform for such exchange via research cooperation.

Research at the AACC SRD on common issues of concern will enable a better understanding between AACC member institutions as well as generate valuable contributions to the global debate on constitutionalism. Regional cooperation in the field of constitutional law necessarily involves thinking about the protection of fundamental rights across borders. Therefore the field of international human rights law will also provide an important area of research.

The AACC SRD will function as a research unit, divided into three groups on a thematic basis:

1. Constitutional Adjudication
2. Fundamental Rights
3. Global Constitutionalism

Function
  • Planning, conducting and coordinating joint research activities among members and with third parties
  • Conducting studies and formulation of proposals for research activities in the sphere of constitutional justice
  • Publishing an international journal on the outcome of the research activities conducted
  • Constructing and managing a database of profiles and key decisions of Members
  • Conducting research and development activities for the promotion of constitutionalism
  • Organizing international conferences, seminars and forums at Justice/Judge level and researcher level on research themes chosen
