Courtesy Visit by the Justice of the Indonesian Constitutional Court to the Spanish Constitutional Court

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia paid a courtesy visit to the Constitutional Court of Spain on 12 February 2019 in Madrid. The delegations were represented by H.E. Prof. Dr. Enny Nurbaningsih (Justice) along with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Spain, H.E. Mr. Hermono, and the Head of the Permanent Secretariat of AACC and International Cooperation Department, Sri Handayani.

 

The president of the Constitutional Court, H.E. Mr. Juan José González Rivas, accompanied by the Secretary General, Mr. Andrés Javier Gutierrez, welcomed the visit and shared about the authorities of the Court. A fruitful discussion about the practices and challenges that each Court face was held at the president’s office. On this occasion, the Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia also explained the intention of the Court to be the host country for the 5th Congress of the World Conference of Constitutional Justice (WCCJ) in 2023, thus asking the support of the Constitutional Court of Spain on that matter. On a side note, Canada was also proposing as the host of the said event. WCCJ itself is a biennual world conference that connects 71 Constitutional Courts/Council and Supreme Courts from all over the world in order to promote constitutional justiceunderstood as constitutional review including human rights case-lawas a key element for democracy, the protection of human rights, and the rule of law. 

 

The meeting ended with the delegations—represented by the Justice and the Ambassador—signing the Book of Honour provided by the Constitutional Court of Spain. (Afina)
