The Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand held an international symposium on “The Constitutional Court on the Protection of the People’s Rights and Liberties” at the Chatrium Hotel Riverside, Bangkok on April 4, 2023. The symposium coincided with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Thailand and was attended by the Constitutional Courts of Indonesia, Austria, Mongolia, Korea, and others.

In the first session, President of the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Korea, President of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia, Constitutional Justices of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, and Office Secretary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Austria delivered special lectures on “The Constitutional Court on Protection of People's Rights and Freedoms.”

The next session was an academic conference on “The Constitutional Court on Protection of People's Rights and Freedoms” with presentations by Thai justice and professors moderated by Mr. Boonserm Naksarn, Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Constitutional Court. The speakers were Dr. Panya Udchachon, Justice of the Constitutional Court, Prof. Charan Phakdithanakul, Emeritus Professor Dr. Bowonsak Uwanno, and Prof. Dr. Banjerd Singkaneti.

Next, the event continued with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Constitutional Court of Mongolia, followed by a closing ceremony in the afternoon by Mr. Worawit Kungsasitiam, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.

This event was an important step for the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand to develop its role and expand its academic cooperation since 2021-2023 by signing an MOU with the Constitutional Court of Mongolia, who is also the president of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC). In 2023, the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand will assume the presidency of the AACC, which currently has 21 members, until 2015.

The leadership of the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand in academic development and its relationship with other Constitutional Courts and equivalent institutions will be further strengthened.
