Secretariat for Research and Development (AACC SRD) hold the 4th International Symposium of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions on “Access to Justice: Constitutional Perspectives” at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul on May 30th
The International Symposium was attended by around 50 judges, including the president and Constitutional Court judges of AACC member. Constitutional jurisdictions in sixteen states in Asia as well as distinguished guests attended the event, whose presentations are divided into four sessions.
At the symposium, Deputy Chief Justice of Indonesian Constitutional Court Saldi Isra delivered a presentation on “Individual Access to Justice” in the first session. He also led the second session entitled “Current Issues on Access to Justice” and actively reported the results of the discussion in the fourth session.
In his presentation, he also explained individual access to justice, which comprises of mechanisms to provide opportunities to individuals and collectives to challenge violations of constitutional rights to the Constitutional Court. In line with that concept, he added, the MKRI applies direct access to individual justice by providing and improving individual access to constitutional justice.
In the same session, Justice Leonen of the Supreme Court of the Philippines emphasized the role of the judiciary in maintaining meaningful freedom and promoting justice. He highlighted access to justice for marginalized and oppressed groups and for equality and justice in society.
