After engaging in a dialogue at the Parliament of Uzbekistan (Oliy Majlisi), the delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) led by Constitutional Justice Wahiduddin Adams held a bilateral meeting with the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan (O'zbekistan Respublikasi Konstitutsiyaviy Sudi) on Thursday, June 15, 2023 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, the MKRI delegation was welcomed by Deputy Chairman Askarjon Gafurov, Constitutional Judge Kozimion Kamilov, Constitutional Judge Karomatjon Datletova, Constitutional Judge Rahat Ismaylov, Constitutional Judge Abdumannob Rahimov, and the Court staff.
Judge Askarjon Gafurov stressed that the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan and the MKRI had had very good friendly relations and the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan had actively participated in various activities hosted by the MKRI. He added that his Court’s delegation had always felt safe when participating in these international activities in Indonesia.
Judge Gafurov then explained the significant changes to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, which had resulted in additional duties for its constitutional judges and the extension of their term of office—from five to ten years. After listening explanation on the differences of the Constitution before and after the amendment referendum, Constitutional Justice Wahidudin Adams expressed hope that the amendment to the Uzbekistan Constitution would lead to the achievements of the nation’s and the Constitutional Court’s goals.
Justice Wahidudin also invited the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan to attend a short course on “Democracy, Digital Transformation, Judicial Independence” that the MKRI will host as the Secretary for Planning and Coordination of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) on August, 10-11 2023 in Jakarta. He explained that the short course is part of the celebration of the MKRI’s 20th anniversary, which falls on August 13, 2023. (*)
