Bangkok, Thailand – The Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand successfully hosted the 6th Congress of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) on September 18-19, 2024, at the Athenee Hotel in Bangkok. This significant gathering brought together constitutional law experts, judges, and representatives from various member states to engage in meaningful discussions and share insights on vital issues related to constitutional justice.
Hon. Prof. Dr. Nakharin Mektrairat, President of the Constitutional Court of Thailand and President of the AACC, delivered the opening remarks, setting the tone for the Congress. The event was further honored by a special address from Hon. Mr. Gianni Buquicchio, President Emeritus and Special Representative of the Venice Commission, who shared his insights via a pre-recorded video message.
The Congress was centered around the main theme: “The Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions in Strengthening Constitutional Justice for Sustainable Society.” This theme was complemented by three sub-themes:
Since presiding over the AACC in 2023, the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand will continue to lead the Association until 2025. The successful hosting of the 6th AACC Congress underscores Thailand's commitment to advancing constitutional law and justice in the region.
At the Closing Ceremony on September 19, the Constitutional Court announced the adoption of the Bangkok Declaration, which was approved by the Board of Members. This significant outcome of the Congress reinforces the collaborative spirit of the AACC and will serve as a guiding framework for future initiatives and discussions within the Association.
